Castle Water in the community: A year of partnerships in 2024

As we come to the end of the year, we’re reflecting on some of the partnerships and community ventures we’ve supported. Working with people that have supported us, and partnering with organisations whose values align with our own is something we’re incredibly passionate about and will continue to do throughout 2025.

Standing shoulder to shoulder with giants – our 2024 partnership with Giants Live

We were delighted to support Giants Live for the fourth year running. This alliance has grown beyond sponsorship, becoming a powerful statement of shared values: strength, integrity, and a dedication to excellence.

Director of Digital and Marketing, David Bain, commented:

“We are delighted to continue our partnership with Giants Live. Supporting Giants Live aligns seamlessly with our commitment to excellence, strength, and community. As a leading water supplier, we understand the importance of resilience, and we are proud to contribute to the production of world-class strongman events.”

Because of this partnership, we were able to provide local men’s mental health and wellbeing group, Mantalk, with complimentary tickets to the recent World Tour Finals meet at the OVO Hydro in Glasgow. Mantalk representative John said of the event:

“Giants Live World Tour Finals is the “Premier League Final” of the strongman world. For strength fans like me, it’s an amazing day out with friends. I’ve been lucky enough to go two years in a row now thanks to Castle Water and I must say, it’s one of the highlights of my year.”

Supporting the finest loos in the land – Blairgowrie public toilets

When the local authority announced last year that it would stop operating the public toilets in Blairgowrie, where Castle Water is headquartered, the Blairgowrie and Rattray Development Trust (BRDT) issued a direct appeal for help to Castle Water CEO, John Reynolds. Following this, in April 2024 we pledged to cover fifty percent of the running costs of the public toilets on an annual basis.

John said of the pledge, “This is an important amenity for the vibrant and attractive Blairgowrie town centre. Castle Water provides water services to some of the finest loos in the land and we are keen to support the Blairgowrie and Rattray Development Trust to ensure high quality facilities remain available to visitors to Blairgowrie’s amazing town centre.”

Linda Tait of BRDT added, “We are extremely grateful to Castle Water and our community organisations and volunteers who have already come forward and offered their help. Our hope is others will follow in their footsteps to cover the costs of running the public toilets efficiently.”

Team Castle Water Scotland Kiltwalking for Ayrshire Cancer Support

The incredible team at Castle Water Scotland managed to raise £1,600 in aid of Ayrshire Cancer Support in April by taking part in the 2024 Glasgow Kiltwalk. The event is comprised of a 23-mile walk starting at Glasgow Green and finishing in the idyllic Balloch, Loch Lomond and takes approximately eight hours to complete the full journey.

Team organiser Megan Sutherland, Billing and Data Analytics Manager for Castle Water Scotland said, “We chose this charity because our beloved colleague, John McConnachie, passed away in December 2022 and Ayrshire Cancer Support supported him and his family through this time”.

Ayrshire Cancer Support is Ayrshire’s leading cancer charity that provide practical help and emotional support to people affected by cancer. They offer a range of services including patient transport, counselling, complementary therapies, and a drop-in centre.

The future of football – supporting the Jeanfield Swift Jesters

Formed in January 2022, the Jeanfield Jesters U12s are one of nine teams that make up the set up at Jeanfield Girls Football Club, with 138 registered players from U8s to U18s. They are also part of the pathway to St Johnstone Women’s Football Club, a team who play in the SWPL 2 league.

In May 2024, we provided new football strips to the team for their 2024-25 season. Speaking on the sponsorship Amy Pryde said,

“As a Senior Customer Service Advisor at Castle Water I knew that our CEO, John Reynolds, was keen to support local charities and sports clubs. When a new home kit sponsor was required I approached John, and he was very keen to support our team. John came down to our training session and did an official handover of the tops before the girls wore them the following Saturday at their game against Auchtermuchty Bellvue Colts.

The club and team rely on the generosity of our sponsors, and I would like to thank John on behalf of the Jeanfield Jesters U12s for his support and sponsorship.”

There and back again – supporting the 2024 Cateran Yomp with the Army Benevolent Fund

We were thrilled to be the main water sponsor of the Cateran Yomp for the sixth year running, providing drinking water stations throughout the 54-mile route. The event, ran by the Army Benevolent Fund, in total managed to raise £443,893 which will go towards supporting soldiers, veterans and their families.

Kevin McIntyre, Disconnection Quality Assurance Leader at Castle Water, completed the Cateran Yomp gold route in 16 hours and 59 minutes, 27 minutes faster than his previous best time, and managed to raise over £1,500 for ABF.

Bowling for success – our partnership with Bowls Scotland

We were happy to partner with Bowls Scotland for another year in 2024 and were one of the main sponsors of the 2024 Bowls Scotland National Championships. Held at the National Centre for Bowling in Ayr at the end of July, the event showcased the best in Scottish bowls, with Men’s, Women’s, Mixed, Youth, and Para disciplines all competing in one of the sport’s oldest tournaments.

Our contribution included providing freshwater stations around the event, to minimise the use of single-use plastics, reusable scorecards, and pencils for teams, reflecting our commitment to sustainability. Castle Water’s longstanding partnership with Bowls Scotland has also helped clubs like Halfway & District Bowling Club save on water bills, allowing reinvestment into their facilities.

NFU Scotland – an ever-growing partnership

2024 marks a decade of collaboration between NFU Scotland and Castle Water. This partnership, the first of its kind in the water sector, has made a real impact by helping NFUS members save an estimated £39,000 annually on water bills.

Over the years, the partnership has focused on delivering practical benefits like straightforward billing, easy account management, and support for sustainability efforts. With services tailored to the agricultural sector, including specialised wastewater treatment solutions, the collaboration continues to provide NFUS members with reliable and effective water services across Scotland.

Football success: Business Fives Tayside and Glasgow

As regular participants of Business Fives, we were delighted to be crowned champions of 2024 Business Fives Tayside, with Senior Customer Service Advisor, Blair Kinmont, awarded “Best Player of the Final” for his efforts in the deciding match. The team also raised vital funds for Mantalk, totalling over £200 for the charity.

Team Castle Water Scotland also participated in Business Fives Glasgow this year, fundraising for Ayrshire Cancer Support and raising £280.

Looking ahead

As we draw 2024 to a close, it’s clear that our commitment to supporting communities, fostering partnerships, and making a meaningful difference remains steadfast. As we step into 2025, we look forward to building on these successes, continuing to make a positive impact alongside our partners and the communities we proudly serve.
