Any processed wastewater liquids and rainwater may not penetrate the ground, and all liquids are channelled into a secure concrete basin and disposed of professionally.

There are high standards for safety both in existing refineries near drinking water and in those projected for build. However, it should be added that there are no new petroleum refineries planned for the UK as of 2022.
