Castle Water, the UK’s largest independent business water retailer, were proud to return as sponsors of the 2023 Cateran Yomp in aid of ABF The Soldiers’ Charity. The event, last weekend on the 3rd and 4th June, involved a record-breaking 1,200 participants battling through a 54-mile hike in 24 hours across the rugged terrain of the Scottish Cairngorm Mountains.
For the 5th year running, Castle Water sponsored the event by providing fresh drinking water stations at the main event hub in Blairgowrie, and water stops along the 54-mile route. This year the water retailer also provided the water for the showers located at the main event hub. The water stops and showers ensured all participants, volunteers and employees stayed refreshed and hydrated during the event, all while reducing unnecessary single-use plastic waste.
Raising vital funds for soldiers
The Cateran Yomp is an annual event in aid of ABF The Soldiers’ Charity and exists to raise vital funds to support soldiers, veterans, and their families. It is the biggest and toughest event of its kind and this year raised a staggering total of £300,000.
Kevin’s Cateran Yomp experience
Kevin McIntyre, Castle Water’s Disconnection Quality Assurance Leader, participated in the event for the second year. Not only did Kevin raise money for this incredible charity, but he also completed the event in a new personal best time of 17 hours and 26 minutes, finishing overall in 35th place.
“It was an amazing day. I had 3 personal aims for this year’s Yomp:
-
- Raise more money for ABF, The Soldiers Charity than last year – which we did – many thanks to all who kindly donated
-
- Finish the course
-
- Complete the course in a quicker time than last year – which I did
The heat was gruelling, really tough, and the weather was much hotter than last year. But the whole experience just drives you on and keeps you going. The event organisation was excellent, with brilliant support crew who take care of you at every point.
So, will I do it next year?… Probably, why not!”
