Going green on the green – Castle Water’s sustainable sponsorship at the 2024 Bowls Scotland National Championships

Castle Water, the UK’s leading independent water retailer, and highest-performing retailer for metering, proudly returned this year as a sponsor for the 2024 Bowls Scotland National Championships held at the National Centre for Bowling in Ayr.

This year’s Championships took place from Saturday, 27 July to Saturday, 3 August. Established in 1893, the Scottish Championships are one of the oldest bowls competitions in the world. The event brings together some of the best players in the country as they compete in the weeklong tournament, with categories covering Men’s, Women’s, Mixed, Youth, and Para Disciplines.

Castle Water supported the event by providing fresh drinking water stations across the venue for the duration of the Championships. Participants were able to fill their reusable water bottles at the stations, reducing the amount of single-use plastic waste. By replacing single-use plastic bottles with reusable alternatives, we can help reduce the overproduction of plastic goods.

Business Development Consultant, John Duncan, and Sales Consultant, Fraser Barbour, attended the event, greeting participants and spectators upon entry. They also provided each team with scorecards and pencils, which were donated by Castle Water.

Castle Water’s partnership with Bowls Scotland has enabled numerous bowling clubs to save on their water bills. One notable example is Halfway & District Bowling Club, which made the switch to Castle Water eight years ago. Since then, the club has consistently saved on both water and wastewater bills each year, allowing it to reinvest the savings back into its facilities.

Stephen McIntyre, Club Administrator at Halfway & District Bowling Club, said:

“I would recommend switching to Castle Water due to the ease of entering meter readings, invoices being based on actual readings, good customer service, and a good base rate being charged.”
